]]> Wed Oct 11 2006 7 Staines Mountain Bike Trip http://steve6226.fotopic.net/c1110076.html Awesome trip with mates from work up at Dumfries. Lots of technical climbs and fast steep downhills, and of course, food and alcohol! The place we were staying was slap bang in the middle of one of the forests and had its own outdoor sauna and hot tub! :P Unfortunately the hot tub caused the only accident i had of the whole 3 days and broke my foot when i was getting in and slipped down a stupid gap in the seat :( Thursday 12 October 2006: Awesome trip with mates from work up at Dumfries. ]]> Wed Jul 12 2006 Bontrager Twentyfour 12 http://steve6226.fotopic.net/c1030193.html Was racing at Lodgewood Park at Ellesmere in Shropshire on saturday, it was a 12hr non-stop race and was scorching hot at the start hitting 32C (hence my red face!) but then the rain came in and got everything totally soaking wet - lots of people dropped out in the bad weather but was first and just kept the pace up so keeping 30mins ahead of the second place. Awesome weekend and very technical, lots of steep downhills, slippy roots and muddy slippy sections. Pics on my fotopic website, more to follow. ]]> Sat Jul 22 2006 Malham in the Dales http://steve6226.fotopic.net/c1018208.html Guy decided to "cam ap norf" for a proper ride after his niggly knee problem so Dave and Rich suggested this "classic" which i had never done before, i now know why its a classic. Lots of fast hard packed climbs and insanely quick downhills (thank god for UST and disc brakes). Dave punctured about 12teen times and a pub lunch including pints of beer was NOT a good idea before a 30minute climb in 33C heat... i felt worse than SSMM at 2am at that point. Awesome ride, will be doing that one again! This is the 8th time i have been to this event and the 7th time i have ridden in it. Was in a Torq Elite team this year and it was really hard work. Really steep and bumpy which gave the saddle a battering. I really suffered at night time but felt fine in the morning for some reason, i think this will be my last one, im getting too old for it now... ;) Not many race pics of the team yet, but have some from the kiddies mini mayhem (24mins) and lots of the other stuff going on. Check out the pic of the rider who got his foot stuck in the Kona Paligap riders back wheel, myself Matt Hart and Marcos Scheir had to dismantle his wheel to get the poor guy out - lucky Matt knows how to undo Sidi shoes otherwise the guy would still be there!!! All in all it was an excellent first outing for a new venue, Lodgewood Park Ellesmere which hosted the third round of the Midlands Championships, run by mbXC. Wasnt my ideal course but came 4th, my buddy Matt Loake came off on one of the seriously steep downhills and disclocated his shoulder though :( Had the worlds most gay transponder on the front of the bike, it weighed a ton and was something not disimilar to that which the RAF use on their trainer planes as a homing beacon.... The bit after this was sooo steep really sharp turn before muddy climb must be last lap - im standing up!

God it was SERIOUSLY hot, lots of people getting sunburnt and suffering from dehydration so cramp was setting in on the last lap. I came 12th at the NPS and probably could have got 10th if my legs hadnt started to cramp, but i was really pleased. I came 9th at the Marathon series so was pleased with that as well. We kept up with the relay teams of 4 for about 11hours but by then we needed to have a little bit of sleep so it was easy for the big teams to stick a lot of miles into us. It wasnt a race though and we were pleased with our performance, had a great weekend although very tired after it.
